Recognizing the impact of shooting sports and winning a youth elk hunt on Skyler's personal development and calling into the guide career, the Skyler Gabel Groups awards two youth elk hunts each year to the top shooters in the 12-14 year old categories at two state level shoots each year.
The first goes to the Junior Champion at the Youth Hunter Education Challenge, a title Skyler was proud to earn in 2009. The second goes to the Intermediate at the 4-H State Shoot who scores the highest in Outdoor Skills and also competes in .22 rifle, archery, and muzzleloading. Skyler came home with 10 first place awards at the last state shoot he attended. He placed significant value on his award in Outdoor Skills each year, had more awards in .22 shooting and archery than the rest, and longed to master the muzzle loader as it represented traditional skills that he cherished.
It is our hope that these awards will encourage participation in shooting sports, ethical hunting, and even careers in the outfitting field.

Our second Forever Wild Award Recipient is 13 year old Libby Logan of Guernsey. Our first award winner, Eli Jones, passed the championship torch by awarding her the prize. She was the junior champion in a close match of 8 events at the Wyoming State Youth Hunter Challenge held in Upton on June 10th. The kids competed in 8 different events in one day - .22 rifle, muzzleloading, 5 stand shotgun, archery, orienteering, wildlife identification and both a written and field test. We saw outstanding shooting and sportsmanship and incredibly close competition for the first place Jr. Prize. Congratulations Logan!
We were also able to give an award at the 2017 Wyoming State 4-H Shoot. This intermediate is the highest placing Outdoor Skills winner who also competed in muzzleloader, archery, and .22 rifle. Congratulations to 12 year old Lexi Overfield of Thermopolis.
