Forever Wild Historian awards are presented at History Day competitions in Skyler's home region (Region 1) and at the Wyoming state competition. The projects recognized by our organization reflect the mission of the Skyler Gabel Group by demonstrating passionate research that reflects the values and history of the American West. Preference is given to place-based projects dependent on local sources that promote awareness of the rich history of outfitting, shooting sports, trapping, rodeo and native traditions. Favorite topics for us include mountain men, outlaws and western heroes, rodeo, native lifestyles and traditions, and backcountry stories. Skyler, a young hunting guide, was a five time Wyoming Historical Society Young Historian who was as passionate about gathering oral history and archived stories about his home state as he was about harvesting game along the Absaroka Mountain Range.
2019 Wyoming History Days Forever Wild Historian: Nico Mc Gee

Nico created a website on Red Cloud's War and impressed us with his curiosity regarding the Native American's who were killed in the conflict. Their stories were harder to find than the stories of the military men who died.
2018 Wyoming History Days Forever Wild Historian: Grace Butler

Grace impressed us with her enthusiasm in seeking out elders and Native American storytellers to help her learn about the Wind River Reservation.
